A brief drive through Oklahoma on the way to Kanab

On my early 2022 road trip out to Kanab my next overnight stop was in Oklahoma City, OK. My research didn’t turn up anything that was as interesting to me as the various sites in the other states so this was planned to be one of those states of opportunity. If I saw something I would stop for it or chase it. I couldn’t tell what was around when I was hunting down a place to sleep for the night so I just stopped on the East side of Oklahoma City. When I got up the golden hour light was fantastic so I found a place to launch for a shot of the city.

Oklahoma City Oklahoma

This is the heart of downtown Oklahoma City with the tallest buildings in the city. It isn’t quite what I am used to as far as the definition of a big city but everything is relative and it is lovely in the morning light. It was kind of funny driving in. When I got to the city limits it was flat, flat, flat and I couldn’t see anything taller than a barn for miles. They have some room to expand.

In the foreground is the Chicksaw Bricktown Ballpark, home of the Oklahoma City Dodgers, a AAA affiliate of the LA Dodgers. The tallest building there is the Devon Energy Center … old oil of course BUT as you can see from other photos, Oklahoma is prime space for wind energy as well.

I really didn’t spend a lot of time chasing down photos in OK because I was anxious to get to the Texas pan handle but here are my favorites.

I’m sure it is a lovely state with a lot to see but I was psyched about my Texas research, especially Amarillo so OK was mostly a drive through.

Back with you again soon on the Lone Star State!
