An early Spring visit to the Frelinghuysen Arboretum

Dicentra in the Spring

New Jersey is, of course, known as The Garden State. That draws some laughs from uninformed people whose NJ experience is basically “The Sopranos” and “Jersey Shore.” Those of us who have taken a lot of time exploring New Jersey understand that the state is so much more than the TV portrayals of it.

The Spring is a great time to explore the state. As you get away from the Hudson River and the Atlantic Ocean there is much to see.

Some of the fantastic places for Spring are a number of public gardens and arboretums. One of the most beautiful so far this Spring was is the Frelinghuysen Arboretum in Morristown, NJ.  The Frelinghuysen Arboretum is a regional center for horticultural activities , including educational programs, special tours, group tours, special events, and an extensive collection of botanical literature. Also check out the Friends of Frelinghuysen Arboretum. This day I was in a mood to shoot mostly closeups of individual blooms.
